Most of your Local 188 Richmond Firefighters have had rigorous and extensive specialized training in a multitude of Rescue techniques. In fact, over the years, we’ve had to get a larger Rescue unit to hold all of our tools.

Here’s a photo of our current and previous Rescues.

This was taken from the Richmond City Managers Weekly Report. Even the City Manager is telling the residents that there are not enough resources or Firefighters for an emergency!!! So why is the Richmond City Council cutting an entire Truck Company from your department?

They’re telling you that they’re risking your life and that they’re ok with that!!

Only you, the Richmond Residents can STOP THIS MADNESS! Tell your Council Members that you wont stand for them cutting Fire Department resources!!

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WJAR) — A deadly fire in New Bedford renews debate over the city's practice of "blacking out" fire stations.

Robert Seamans, 88, of New Bedford, was killed in a house fire on Myrtle Street Saturday.

The Massachusetts Fire Marshal said it was an accidental kitchen fire.

The closest fire truck was out of service Saturday as part of the city's cost cutting measures. It's the second time in little more than two months that an elderly person has died in a house fire in New Bedford while the nearest fire truck was out of service for the day.

As the fire burned Saturday, Holly Thomas said she saw the victim.

"He was banging on the window on the side of the house," said Thomas.
